Abstract

Techno-economic feasibility study for the construction of an open-air theater in the Caldura district of Cefalù.

In  relation to the considerable entertainment activities that take place in the town during the year and in particular in the summer period, to the large number of Italian and foreign tourists who stay there, to the constant request of most of the local population to live the city appropriately with meeting places and outdoor entertainment, in this dramatic moment for the whole humanity hit by the pandemic, the Municipal Administration of the City of Cefalù has decided, hoping for a better future, to invest in the construction of a outdoor theater in the city and around the city.

A new open-air city theater for the city of Cefalù is the subject of this feasibility study, an architecture of cultural entertainment completely absent in the local area, at the moment.

Theaters are places of attraction in the city, not only for the function they contain, but also for the architectural value of the buildings themselves, in some cases so significant that they can be visited as real works of art, even by non-enthusiasts. Just think of Taormina, Segesta, Syracuse, Agrigento, etc. For others, however, there is no better place than a theater to be able to fully enjoy all the artistic nuances that this fascinating place contains: bel canto, prose, art and architecture.

The municipal property area that has been examined in this feasibility study is located to the east of the city, in a place that thanks to environment and landscape is suitable for the construction of an outdoor amphitheater, where the fixed scene is the seascape.

The place of the project appears little anthropized, here the dialogue of the natural elements is clear and flowing, without obstacles: the fortress, the sea, the sky and the greenery dominate the context.

The city of Cefalù has developed over the centuries on the western side of the Rocca, towards the setting sun, essentially for orographic reasons, resulting in an uncontaminated landscape in its eastern part, an area chosen by the municipal administration for the construction of the open-air theater, considering it suitable for the destination.
