Architectural Design and Exhibition Setup: Salvatore Curcio; Graphic Design: Dario Barà; Geological Consulting: Pietro Di Stefano, Alessandro Torre, L. Fabio Torre; Multimedia Content Development: Antonino Gaudesi; Installations and Printing: Zs Informatica s.r.l., Giovane Locati s.n.c.The project involved the relocation, expansion, and modernization of the Geological Section of the “Antonio Collisani” Civic Museum in Petralia Sottana, now housed on the renovated ground floor of Palazzo Pucci Martinez, a historic residence that also hosts the headquarters of the Madonie Park Authority.
The intervention, carried out by the Madonie Park Authority with the support of the Sicilian Region – Department of Territory and Environment, Italkali S.p.A., and the Municipality of Petralia Sottana, has created a more suitable and functional environment to showcase the important geological collection of the Madonie Geopark – UNESCO Global Geopark.
The new museum section, dedicated to the geologist Giuseppe Torre, is distinguished by:
-
Renovated and accessible exhibition spaces: prefabricated display cases with integrated lighting, updated graphics and bilingual texts, barrier-free pathways, and solutions for visitors with disabilities.
-
Technological innovation: a 3D avatar of Giuseppe Torre welcoming visitors, interactive multimedia stations, projection rooms, and immersive installations dedicated to the Raffo Salt Mine and the Cathedral of Cefalù.
-
A comprehensive educational and scientific journey: an itinerary that traces the geological history of the Madonie Mountains and the cultural and landscape heritage of the area, highlighting events such as the Petralia Sottana landslide, the history of the hydroelectric power plant, the Lumachella stone, and the contributions of geologists and scholars who have enhanced the region’s value.
The exhibition successfully combines tradition and innovation, transforming the museum into a place not only of preservation and study, but also of education, experience, and interaction.
Thanks to this project, both the local community and visitors can now explore the unique geological and cultural heritage of the Madonie in an engaging way, within a modern museum context fully aligned with the expectations of an international audience.
